H1N1

Dear Parents / Guardians
Influenza A(H1N1)
According to news reports, current statistics for the country are as follows :
· 58 reported cases
· 2 schools closed for a week
· 4 schools stopped a class each

Although there have been school closures, Kinderland will close only if there is a confirmed case in this school or there is a directive from the Ministry of Health to do so.

However, if there is unanimous request from the parents to close, Kinderland will then adhere to these requests.

In the meantime, the school has taken the following measures :
Air-conditioning units in classrooms are kept at a minimal level and windows wi9ll be opened throughout the day.

The school will explain to students the symptoms and preventive measures through :
- assemblies
- teachers in classrooms
- a dedicated noticeboard
- electronic media

Students returning from Australia and the United States have been requested to stay home for 3 days from the day they arrive home. This period of quarantine will be reviewed as necessary.

This is pending approval/confirmation from the Ministry of Health on the proper procedures to be followed. As per mentioned earlier, we have taken all neccessary measures to keep this influenza in check.

The school will keep parents updated on any further developments. Please inform the school management immediately if your child is suspected/confirmed to be infected with the Influenza A(H1N1) virus.

Thank you.

Standard Operating Procedures on Precautions to Prevent the Spread of Influenza Pandemic in Kinderland Kota Damansara.

Due to the alarming rate of which Influenza A (Swine Flu) is spreading, some necessary precautions need to be taken. Besides exercising personal hygiene and keeping the Centre premises clean and safe, it is necessary to implement enhanced measures to prevent the possible introduction of the Influenza A (H1N1) virus into our centre. We must have adequate procedures to ensure that children and staff who exhibit symptoms of influenza or respiratory illness do not attend school until they have been certified by a medical practitioner to be medically fit to attend school.

2 These procedures will be implemented with immediate effect.

a) Staff and parents of children who attend our centre are required to make a health
declaration in respect of them or their children upon their return from
overseas travel, after a public holiday, absence for more than3 days and in other
cases, fortnightly.

b) Implement daily temperature checks for staff and children and to maintain proper
records for inspection.

c) Have in place protocol for management of staff and children with flu-like symptoms, including mandatory leave of absence for those who travelled to affected places. Updates of the condition of the children or staff should be regularly obtained via telephone during period of leave or absence from centre.

d) Be equipped with sufficient disposable gloves, thermometers/covers, disinfectant
wipes and sanitizers.

e) To report any suspected Influenza A (H1N1) cases immediately.

3 We wish to emphasise the importance of ensuring that the children's contact details and alternative care arrangements records are in place. You should update your telephone / mobile numbers to your child's respective teachers to ensure that you are contactable at all times.

4 Please exercise social responsibility and we encourage you to take your child's temperature prior to sending them to the centre. We seek your full co-operation and continued vigilance during this period, to ensure a safe and healthy environment for our children.
